Anthropology in the Bible
The study of the human and of human society explored and explained by
Rabbi Hillel Athias-Robles, Assistant Rabbi, Northwood & Pinner Liberal Synagogue, studying for a MSc in Social Anthropology at UCL.

When anthropology began to take shape as a science in the 19th Century, scholars found many similarities between the practices and taboos they found in traditional societies in Oceania, Africa, and Native America and those described in the Bible. Rabbi Hillel examined biblical taboos and practices and the ways anthropologists have understood them to this day.

Born in Vienna in 1921, Freddie lived happily with his parents and his two brothers until 11 March 1938, when Austria was annexed by Germany. His life, during the tragic period 1938 - 1945, reads like a novel: arrests, prison, escapes, hiding with false papers, joining the resistance and surviving concentration camps. But luck and courage saved him from extermination
